Soaring classical, soulful jazz, bouncy reggae – Stephen Hussey’s violin dances effortlessly through a whole range of musical moods during a recent ‘showcase’ sampler at Casita Miro. Close your eyes and it’s hard to believe this is just one chap with a fiddle. His prerecorded backing tracks deliver the full orchestra experience – and highlight the sort of flexibility professional musicians can now offer with a bit of technological help. Stephen can quite literally be a oneman band. “It’s like having an orchestra in my pocket,” he says.
Originally trained at the Guildhall Schoolof Music as a classical violinist, Stephen really does have many strings to his bow. A 20-year musical career in the UK has taken him from traditional classical to reggae, and from session work to special events. It has also seen him cross a variety of borders, both in terms of musical genres and geographic location.
