The USO Jazz Band brings together guitar, double bass and trumpet at its core, with piano, violin, saxophone, percussion and vocals available to create a larger line-up.

The repertoire moves through jazz standards, swing, soul and familiar songs given a jazz treatment, making it equally at home providing a relaxed soundtrack to a drinks reception or taking a more prominent role as the evening develops.

Performed completely live, with no backing tracks, the ensemble can remain understated while guests mingle and dine, or add a vocalist and expand the line-up when the music needs to take more of the spotlight.

The Jazz Band is built in three sizes, and every configuration is performed completely live.

• 3-piece: guitar, double bass, trumpet
• 4-piece: guitar, double bass, trumpet, vocalist
• 5-piece: piano, violin, double bass, trumpet, vocalist

The Jazz Band suits the parts of an event that need atmosphere rather than a performance: drinks receptions, dinner service, corporate hospitality, gallery and showroom evenings, and daytime wedding hours before the room turns.

Its advantage is footprint. It fits rooms that cannot take a stage, works in venues with noise restrictions, and needs very little from the space, which makes it the format of choice for listed buildings, private members' clubs and marquees before the evening rig goes in.

Where a room does open up later, the same booking scales into something larger.

The Jazz Band works beautifully across the earlier part of an event, from guest arrival and drinks through to dinner, before the evening moves into something bigger.

As part of a wider USO booking, the transition between ensembles can be planned as one musical journey, with the atmosphere building naturally throughout the day. Booking multiple ensembles together also offers a better rate than booking each element separately.
